Herringbone Engineered Wood Flooring FAQs
Why choose herringbone engineered wood flooring?
The herringbone pattern is a timeless classic and one that is firmly on-trend – not that it can ever go out of trend in our opinion. Our herringbone engineered wood flooring is not only beautiful on the eye but also durable, long-lasting and very easy-to-maintain; meaning you can enjoy your herringbone wood floor for years to come!
Our engineered wood is constructed using layers of ply or HDF and then finished with a high-quality solid oak making it extremely durable. This key manufacturing technique also ensures it is compatible with underfloor heating systems – something previously considered inappropriate for solid wood flooring.
This makes our premium herringbone engineered wood flooring collection a cost-effective and reliable alternative to solid wood.
What rooms are suitable for herringbone engineered wood flooring?
Due to the durability of our engineered wood you can use your herringbone floor in nearly all the rooms of your home including hallways, living areas, bedrooms and kitchens. The only areas you need to avoid are high moisture and high humidity areas due to the flooring not being water resistant; so for example bathrooms, conservatories, and basements.
Where to start with herringbone flooring?
Traditionally you start with the first herringbone pattern row down the middle of the room, and then lay adjacent rows either side. However, also consider the most important sight line and whether it needs to flow into multiple areas and rooms.
Remember to mix and match variations of grain and colour in the oak veneer for a timeless finish.
Is there a lot of waste with herringbone flooring?
Typically there are a lot more cuts with herringbone flooring due to the constraints of the pattern and smaller planks. For novice installers consider adding 12% to 20% depending on your DIY skills; For a professional fitter they would normally allow for 10% wastage – but do always check with your professional.
Does herringbone make a room look bigger or smaller?
Smaller or narrower spaces such as hallways can be made to look bigger due to the herringbone floor pattern. The herringbone pattern itself gives an illusion of movement, and depending on the direction its laid can help make a room feel wider or longer.
The shade of engineered wood can also have a massive effect on the space – so consider a lighter shade if you want the room to feel bigger.
