Our Sandringham Mist engineered oak flooring is 14mm thick with a 3mm wear layer of solid oak. The board width is 125mm and has random lengths of 300mm-1200mm. To achieve a textured finish on the veneer, each individual board is brushed using a metal-wire comb. Although this improves the aesthetic appearance of the flooring, it also prevents new growth within the wood and ensures that only the oldest, strongest wood remains in the product. The brushing process brings out the natural characteristics and charm of engineered wood flooring.
Smoked Engineered Wood Flooring
We only use the highest quality flooring we can source, the Sandringham Mist is a great example of our carefully selected products. Each plank of the Mist flooring has been smoked for a superior finish. The straight boards are carefully selected for their classic grading before being transferred to a chamber and subjected to various amounts of ammonia. This process can take up to 3 weeks depending on the manufacturer and the desired colour for the oak flooring.
As the ammonia is released the grey hue shades each board differently, this results in some planks being darker or lighter than others. This skilful technique provides beautifully contrasting boards that compliment the brushing process. The stylish and elegant finish highlights every single grain within the wear layer making this one of our most popular floors.
Preserve & Protect
Hard wax oils are applied to the boards once they have undergone the brushing and smoking processes. The oil allows for a more textured finish that complements the style of the flooring. Once the oil has soaked into the 3mm wear layer it provides protection for the whole board, not just the top layer. Hardwax oil provides a matt finish for the flooring, this makes the flooring look more natural to the eye and reacts better to unwanted scratches.
